Dozens of hotel Google business accounts across Indonesia were hacked on Sunday, according to the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI). The association has announced that it will report the incident to the Cyber Crime Directorate of the Indonesian National Police (Bareskrim Polri). “This hacking was not limited to Surabaya; major cities across Indonesia, including Jakarta, Semarang, Denpasar, and Makassar, were also targeted,” said Puguh Sugeng Sutrisno, Chairman of the PHRI Surabaya Chapter, on Monday. "In Bandung alone, around 35 hotels were affected, and there are many more in Surabaya, including some of the major hotels. I’ll provide an update on the exact number soon," he added. Puguh highlighted that PHRI Chairman Hariyadi Sukamdani would personally report the matter to Polri. The association suspects that the hackers may be local, as some hotels’ WhatsApp numbers on the Google business accounts were replaced with local phone numbers. "Even bank account details were altered, redirecting to an account at one of the state-owned banks," Puguh explained. Puguh also noted reports indicating that in eastern Indonesia, hotel bank account numbers were changed to personal accounts. "We received information from one of the state-owned banks showing transactions from eastern Indonesia to a personal account," he said. Puguh expressed hope that the issue would be swiftly resolved, as the widespread nature of the attack could significantly disrupt business operations. Tags: Keywords:
